1. I deleted like 8 just for fun, couldn't delete the one that died though.

2. Got my second vaccine instead, but otherwise texted "sexy land laborer"

3. He texted back "I'm your ranch hand pool boy," and it's done now.

4. I'm only 29 so I got a whole year to run from my third death. Plus I got two cats so I figure between us we've got all kinds of lives and weird forward/backward time.

5. (1) Driving in my ford taurus in negative 20 degrees when I was 16 and my heart had just been broken (2) Sledding super drunk in a park and needing to warm my feet with the hand dryer to keep my toes (3) Scary sledding when you're moving so fast you know this only ends one way (4) I hate the feeling when it's Christmas eve and you're in California looking out at the Ocean and it's really cold and windy and you feel like you're standing nowhere (5) Egg nog milkshakes (6) Fluffy snow clumps (7) Saran wrap windows

6. It happened.

7. (1) Driving with the pretty ex with my feet out the window (2) standing in a bank in my bathing suit (3) cats that find you walking around at night (4) Cereal at 3pm (5) half-showered sun kissed (6) work clothes have lost their readiness-to-hand (7) nighttime swing sets

8. It happened.

9. It's not gonna happen.

1. Nipping the peppermint moonshine we called antifreeze while gathering firewood.

2. A blizzard on my birthday in April, a line of bundled preschoolers shuffling inside for my party.

3. The jungle air of a hot Vancouver bus on a wet December morning.

4. Laying on my back atop a concrete sea wall watching for meteors, cold salt air stinging my nose.

5. A Houston “snowfall” – me with my umbrella and sweater, the kids from LA and Laredo throwing handfuls of slush on the quad.

6. Huddled with my husband and dogs in our living room, praying the roads stayed safe enough to get to town for drinking water and generator fuel.

7. Coming home from a New Year’s party in the skiff, near white-out, puttering along until the Christmas tree lit up on our dock emerged out of the thick night.

1. Horses gathered around an artesian well, a ballet of swishing tails, flicking ears, stomping hooves, all elegance until the palomino dunks his face and blows bubbles.

2. I learned to body surf the same day I’d taken a chunk from my knee falling off my bike. The salt water stung and cleansed it that day, but I could never stop picking the scab.

3. I was just a few blocks from English Bay the semester I lived on Davie Street, but I only walked that direction once, the weekend I moved into that refurbished walk-up. The beachfront was raucous and festive, and the crowds made me feel so alone.

4. The gently warm wood of the Allyn’s Alley dock under our backs as we let the August sun dry us before jumping in the Atlantic again.

5. My first margarita, which I hated, and my first piña colada, which I loved.

6. Watching moonrise and sunset over the pastures, the cold hose water running through my hair taking the edge off of Mississippi in July.

7. I found out I could float as long as I wanted on that thermal layer of fresh mountain lake, the world no bigger than a ring of pines and a crown of blue.
